Small Groups

SMALL GROUPS

We view small groups as the primary source of care and connection within the church. Our hope and prayer is that a small group would not just be another weekly commitment to add to your calendar, but that it would be a place where you encounter God in amazing ways through the fellowship of believers. We offer a variety of groups with different focuses so that you have options for whatever season of life you’re in.

The types of Small Groups offered are:

Study-based: groups focused on community through engaging in the Word, worship and prayer

Activity-based: groups focused on friendship through fellowship and a common interest

Outreach-based: groups focused on mission through service together

Study of Ephesians
Gary & Robin Garza

In Ephesians, throughout its worship, prayers and instructions for living, Paul can’t contain his joy and amazement at the larger story of God’s plan to save us in Jesus the Messiah. These eleven studies from Tom Wright will help us see the significance of our role in God’s grand narrative, and encourage us to live more fully as people who are lavishly loved by God. Join the Garza’s in encouraging one another to walk as fruitful followers of Christ by serving in love, unity, wisdom and perseverance during times of spiritual warfare.

Study of JAMES
Kevin &Janna ballard

Every generation in the church worries, rightly, about people who just glide along, seeming to enjoy what they hear in church but without it making and real difference. James faced exactly the same problem in the very first generation. So it’s not surprising that translating belief into action-making sure faith is the real thing-is near the heart of his message. That kind of faith, he explains, is the faith that matters, the faith that justifies, the faith that saves. We need that kind of faith today. These nine studies on James’s passionate letter help us live out a faith that makes a difference. Join the Ballard’s in learning about faith, wisdom and encouraging each other no matter where we are on this walk of faith.

Study of Romans
Dean & Patty Eilertson

The world is in pain. Paul’s letter to the Romans, as well as one look at our world, gives clear evidence of this. The church shares in the suffering, groaning in the tension between the “already” of possessing the fruit of the Spirit and the “not yet” of our present moral existence. Paul, however, also makes abundantly clear that God doesn’t stand apart from pain. Rather, he entered it through Jesus and dwells in the middle of it in the Spirit. These studies present the whole picture of a sinful world in pain and God’s deep love-at work still today-to reconcile that world to himself. Join the Eilertson’s in discovering how to live in the tension of this reality.

R-relationships E-encouragement A- activities L-laughter. Join us at our home for fun activities, to build relationships, to share experiences, to encourage one another and to have fun as we journey through the joys and challenges of life together. We will be incorporating the N.T. Wright For Everyone Study Guide - Colossians & Philemon into the life of our group. Paul must have often felt like a mother duck guiding her ducklings to safety. He had no idea of the dangers they would face. Longing for them to continue growing in the faith, Paul-now stuck in prison-wrote to his young flock, affirming them, warning them of hazards, and pointing them to King Jesus, the supreme one who is with them, and at work in them. These eight studies will similarly guide us toward maturity in King Jesus, who is still at work in his people today.

Kingdom of god
Claryce Iverson

We are a group who study God’s word and practice what it says by praying for one another and whomever God brings us. We practice the laying on of hands to heal the sick, cleanse the leper, raise the dead and cast out demons (Matt. 10:7-8) We will be using N.T. Wright’s study guide to “Acts” as our study. We call the book “The Acts of the Apostles”, but we should think of it as “The Acts of Jesus: Part Two”. These studies help us to do so, and the see how Jesus’ act through the apostles inform and empower our acts today.

Study of philipians
Wally & Rita Osgood

Things don't always go the way we intend. It's easy to feel discouraged because what we hope for id badly thwarted, or because people make life difficult. Paul, writing to the Philippians from prison, certainly knew what it was like to have plans interrupted. But he maintained robust confidence in God's overruling power, even when everything seemed to be going wrong. These eight studies will help us learn from Paul the art of seeing God's purposes working out through problems and difficulties, and they will deepen our own confidence in God's will.

Study of 1 & 2 Timothy & Titus
Brenda Larson

Study Scripture with N.T. Wright! When you need to know how to do something, a manual is the best place to start. 1&2 Timothy and Titus might be called "the Teacher's Manuel," because so much of what they contain is about the kind of teaching that Christian leaders should-and shouldn't-be giving. Just as Timothy and Titus needed help to lead their young churches well in the midst of powerful cultural forces, we need guidance for correct leading and living in our own context. These studies on Paul's letters point us in the right direction.

Study of Revelation
Robb Swanson

Many regard Revelation as the hardest book in the New Testament. It is full of strange, lurid, and sometimes bizarre and violent imagery. As a result, people who are quite at home in the Gospels, Acts and Paul find themselves tiptoeing around Revelation with a sense that they don’t really belong there. But they do! This book offers one of the clearest and sharpest visions of God’s ultimate purpose for the whole creation. Here we see how the powerful forces of evil can be and are being overthrown through the victory of Jesus the Messiah and the consequent costly victory of his followers.

Life Groups

LIFE GROUPS

Life Groups are essentially small groups that meet throughout the entire year while taking short breaks as needed. Life Group leaders and participants make a one year commitment to each other. These groups maintain an outward focus with the expectation to grow, produce new leaders, and multiply. Life Groups attempt to more fully involve members in each other’s lives by “doing life together.” They incorporate study, worship, prayer, fun activities and outreach into the natural rhythm of group life.

Men's Life Group
john Arras

Hesitant to live life deeply with other guys? Get over it ! We’ll start off in the book of John, but expect to interweave normal guy stuff into our conversations and activity. Meeting every other Saturday morning. When you read detective stories, you quickly learn that what looks like an irrelevant little detail may actually be the clue to solving the mystery. A good writer will put in all kinds of detail; nothing is there by accident. Nothing in John’s Gospel is there by accident either. And all the details in John are designed ultimately to come together. In these studies we discover the clues John gives that we might see even more clearly the reality of who Jesus is, the new creation he inaugurates and the difference that all makes.

Young adult life group
Andi Knudsvig

My heart for this group is that we could be a close-knit circle of friends who desire more than anything else to grow in our relationship with Jesus. I will be hosting the first few months of our time together and after that, I would love for us to take turns hosting our hang-outs! Our meeting days and times can be flexible depending on what works for our group. We will be using the N.T. Wright for Everyone Bible Study Guides as we read through the New Testament together, but some weeks if we want to go biking, have a bon fire etc, we can do that instead! If this sounds like your jam but you have some questions, feel free to give me a text or a call. (218) 302-4521 I am looking forward to doing life with you!

Couples life group
Doug & Christi krasley

Doug & Christi are excited to open their home to build relationships while digging into the word and worshipping Jesus. We’ll start off with a study in Galatians. Paul’s project, he often says, is building-not with bricks and mortar but rather with people. He lays the foundation with the shockingly good news of one true God who raised Jesus from the dead, in order to build a new family with no divisions, all of whom can call God Father. In a world of widespread ethnic rivalry and trenchant divisiveness, Paul’s strong corrective message in Galatians demands to be heard and reheard. In these 11 studies by Tom Wright, we hear once again what remains shockingly good news.

Kids are welcome.

rethinking sexuality: god's design and why it matters
britton ramsey

Rethinking Sexuality: God’s Design And Why It Matters is not just a book, but a movement to equip the church in addressing biblical sexuality. Can Christians reclaim sexuality in a broken culture? We say yes. Rethinking sexuality challenges the paradigm of how Christians have traditionally approached conversations and questions about sexuality. There is no area of humanity in which the church is more ill-equipped than teaching holy sexuality. Porn, sexual abuse, broken sexuality in marriage, represent an epidemic of pain. Many Christians shy away from these topics because they don’t know how to talk about them in a way that honors God and respects people. Because we are hesitant to talk about sexuality, we have essentially conceded this area of life to the larger culture to discuss and define. It’s time to change that. 7 weekly sessions beginning October 8. Men, women, singles, married - all are welcome.
